Testimonials: Cue on Fire!
Submitted by Noel B. Coronel (EPT PHI) (nbc)
This is my first Viattorre cue... and it surely won't be my last. I got my cue last week and I have played with it twice, both times, around 4 hour sessions.
The first thing that will immediately hit you is the finish of the cue. It is superb! I have quite a few cues in my collection, and I have to say that the Viattorre is heads and shoulders above my other cues when it comes to the finish. I have a couple of well known U.S. custom cues that look dull when compared to my Viattorre. I will be taking them to Jack very soon for a refinish.
Second will be the balance. My cue weighs 19.7oz with the hard maple shaft...and 19.5 oz with the laminated shaft. When you use the cue, you'd think it weighs only around 18oz. The balance is so good that it just feels natural in your hands. Something to note...there is no metal in my cue except for the Radial pin. Everything is threaded as well, the ferrule tenons, the forearm/handle tenon, the rubber bumper...everything! Makes for a really durable and solid hitting cue.
How does it play? Again, I give the cue a very high rating! The hit is very consistent, and it does hit like my Southwest. I suggest that you try Jack's shaft taper. It is stiff without being too stiff...and yet flexible enough to give you enough english when you need it and want it. I am glad that Jack convinced me to use his taper on one of the shafts. :)
Truth is, I had difficult using the cue during my first session. I then realized it wasnt really the cue, but the ivory ferrule that I had difficulty getting used to. After a couple of hours of just hitting balls and getting used to the hit of the ivory ferrule, I felt that my game had come back and so had my confidence. I'm not in anyway an expert when it comes to pool, but, my Viattorre suits my style of play just fine and I am going to get Jack to make me a couple more.
As for the design of my Flames cue, this was something that Jack and I worked together on... and I am extremely happy with how it came out. The original design I wanted was in fact, a lot plainer...and Jack was the one who suggested the "tribal" design and torch flame designs on the buttsleeve. They came out very nice! :) The tulipwood points in the forearm are very sharp and the wood is excellent. The different shades of the tulipwood on the jet black Gaboon ebony forearm really suggest a cue that is on fire! Beautiful work! Well worth the wait!
Another nice touch is the fact that Jack found my cue nice enough to put in the cue gallery section. Thanks!!!
Jack is actually in the process of making a couple of cues for my friends...and I am sure that they will love it when they get their cues. Oh...if you get Jack to make you a cue, you will be able to follow its progress because Jack has a portion in his site where he puts in pictures of the cue while it is being made. It's a nice touch... sort of like slow torture for his customers. lol
Great, great cue! Great cuemaker! Great friend! Best of luck to you Jack!!!

P.S. We can start work on the "Flames" break cue and jump cue set. :)
